To celebrate its’ 145th anniversary, Romeo Y Julieta launched the new “Linea de Oro” series at the 2019 Habanos Festival XXII.  It was the last Habanos Festival since the pandemic.  History has shown us that it takes about 1 year for the shops to start carrying the cigars Habanos launches during their annual festival.  In this case, many factors caused delays, and these cigars started appearing in certain select shops in Cuba in December 2021.

They have yet to hit Canada, and when they do, they will be without the lovely red lacquered boxes and the double rings.  They are scheduled to hit the La Casa del Habano shops in Germany this month; January 2022.

The Linea de Oro, or “Gold Line”, are being positioned as the highest end cigars in the Romeo Y Julieta brand.  So, we can expect the prices to reflect that.

WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL

It is interesting to note, that no other cigar in the Habanos portfolio have any of the three sizes featured in the Linea de Oro series.  Hats off to Habanos for creating new shapes and sizes.  I think we can all say we were getting phased out by similar sizes with different brands and bands.  The new sizes make for new possibilities with the blends, with how they smoke, and how they age.  Will be interesting to try them out over time.

All of us have had experiences with the foot of a cigar being damaged, especially in cabinets.  New World cigars have been adding a band on the foot for many years now.  It is a nice touch that Habanos included a cigar band on the foot of the Linea de Oro series.  The 1935 Linea from Montecristo also has this feature, as did some of the latest rare cigars.   Perhaps it is something we will see on new releases coming out of Cuba.  Quite frankly, it is more useful that a stack full of bands in the top part of the cigar.

THE BOXES ARE STUNNING

Sure, we don’t buy these for the boxes.  But let’s face it, when you have a box this gorgeous, it adds to the excitement of adding them to our collections.  The Linea de Oro boxes have the same components of the Cohiba Behike boxes and of the Montecristo Linea 1935 boxes.  That is, a beautiful red and gold lacquered box, that comes in a red velvet casing, all in an outer red cardboard box.  The red box that the cigars are housed in have a beautiful thick and ornate gold stamp in the center of the box.

When these hit the shops they will surely not stay long.  It might be wise to contact your local shop and get your name added to their list so that you can get your hands on at least a couple of Linea de Oro.
