March 2023, Havana, Cuba

The closing gala evening for the annual Habanos Festival has become a spectacle for the auction that occurs towards the end of the evening.  This years’ closing gala celebrated the launch of the new Partagas “Maestra” series (more on those in the next article).  As usual, there are stunning humidors available for auction.  For those that are unfamiliar, these are not your average desktop humidors, they are hand made, one of a kind pieces of art that house between 400 and 650 cigars.  Each is roughly 4-5 feet tall, and each is dedicated to a specific brand.  They are truly stunning pieces that would be the focal point of any room they are in.

There was a time, only a few years ago, when a cigar collector purchased a Cohiba Humidor for 495,000 Euro.  Another cigar merchant purchased a Trinidad humidor for 350,000 Euro.  A fellow Canadian collector paid 150,000 Euro for a Montecristo humidor.  Many of us thought those prices were unbelievable.  But why not!?  Many collectors work their whole lives and wish to treat themselves to a beautiful one of a kind work of art, that includes 100s of their beloved Cuban cigars.

Starting 2 years ago, things changed.  Prices escalated to unimaginable highs.  When Habanos sold a large percentage of their business to a Chinese businessman, things went wild!  A humidor sold for over 1 million Euro.  Then, in September at the COHIBA 55th Festival, the Cohiba humidor was purchased by the Singapore businessman Jimmy Ng for 2.8 Million euro.  (SEE ARTICLE HERE).

2023 – Let’s start the bidding shall we!

The bidding for all the pieces started at 100,000 Euro.  In a matter of minutes, this amount rose at astonishing rates.
