La Gloria Cubana Tainos

In our humidors, we all have loose cigars that we’ve purchased or received as gifts or trades over the years.  When looking through an old box in the humidor, I came across this cigar with its light-colored oily wrapper cigar from a brand that is left behind so many times, La Gloria Cubana.

THE BRAND

La Gloria Cubana is not a brand we see as a staple in most Cuban humidors.  In the shops of Havana, we regularly see the under-rated Medaille No. 4, and the odd box of La Casa Del Habano exclusive “Inmensos”.  As a matter of fact, those are the only two vitolas in current production.  Aside from those two cigars, Habanos uses the brand for several Regional Edition cigars.

ABOUT THE CIGAR – LA GLORIA CUBANA Tainos

The Tainos from La Gloria Cubana is the exact same size as a Churchill.  This cigar was released prior to 1960, and was discontinued in 2012.  The one I am trying today is from the last batch that were produced for release that came in boxes of 10.

BOX DATE: 2012

SIZE:  47 x 7 inches.

FACTORY NAME: Julieta No. 2

1st Part

The beginning is very soft and easy smoking.  This Churchill is producing very big smoke and the draw is smooth as silk.  Keeping true to the La Gloria Cubana linea, the cigar is mild.

2nd Part

This glorious Cuban is smoking very fast.  The flavor is exactly the same as the initial 3rd.  So far, not getting too much other than an extremely loose drawing cigar.

3rd Part

The final 3rd was the most interesting the cigar.  This might be the first time I taste this in a cigar, but it is giving off notes of red licorice.

SUMMARY

I had mentioned to a close friend that i was smoking this cigar, and told him it was on the mild side.  He pointed out that that was the exact reason he liked it so much, and that are not any mild Churchill sized cigars on the market.  It is in fact very true, and felt this should add into the equation when thinking about the overall opinion of the Tainos.

The La Gloria Cubana Tainos can be a perfect cigar when smoking with friends, playing poker, playing golf or any other activity where you just want to enjoy the pleasure of a smooth, mild smooth drawing cigar.  It is only 7 years old however, the flavors are almost all but gone aside from the last burst of strangely but interesting licorice notes.  If you have these, give them a go, they are ready!

PAIRING SUGGESTION:

Pairing with an overall mild cigar can be tricky if you want to taste what you are smoking.  I recommend any of these with a mild Churchill cigar and/or a La Gloria Cubana seeing as they have very similar flavor profiles.

Champagne or a White fruity wine such as a Pouilly-Fume.

Red mild wine, a Dolcetta D’alba can pair nicely with this cigar especially towards the end.

Roger Groult Calvados 12 year.  The Calvados may prove to be a little over powering at the start of the cigar, but will compliment it as it gains in strength.

  1. I am smoking an 07 and it is perfect still has lots of life

    1. cool. I would imagine that any Gloria Cubana cigars over 20-25 years old would lose strength, as they are mild to begin with. Enjoy!
