This is my go to cigar when I am in the mood for something quick and tasty, and as I have repeated myself a few times about other cigars already, this is one of my favourites of the year. The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure De Luxe is definitely my go to petit robusto.
The Smoke
Initially this cigar is slightly peppery, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s nice, sort of like someone threw a bit of pepper on your food to finish it off. The thing that I really liked about the Epicure De luxe, was that it has this creamy, light, lingering sweetness to it that is really nice. It almost has this tapioca like quality. It’s hard to describe, but really enjoyable
It does mellow sharply in the second 3rd and takes on a lot of the qualities of a typical Hoyo, yet retains that slight peppery note throughout. This is where the Epicure De Luxe is amazing, it uses that initial rush of pepper to keep that flavor throughout, yet doesn’t get any spicier. Another really nice quality about it is that the smoke actually has a sweet tinge to it while it’s wafting around, which isn’t something that I have experienced a lot (maybe the Hoyo Epicure Especial).
There’s a lot to like about this Casa Del Habano Exclusive. It’s always beautifully constructed, and I have yet to have one that wasn’t consistent with my description. I love well made, easy to draw cigars and this one hits that mark every time.
