After the very popular and highly sought after 2015 Limited Edition H. Upmann Magnum 56, Habanos has released its’ 56 sized vitola under another limited edition type of release. This time, the “Magnum 56” double Robusto sized cigar is available in an absolutely stunning ceramic jar, each containing 20 cigars.
This special release jar was original intended for release in Travel retail only in 2019. We all know what happen the year after that, and now the jar is making its’ way slowly into some select traditional shops with an initial focus in La Casa del Habano shops. This is but just one sad reality for markets that have plain packaging in full stride. These beautiful pieces will never make it to shops in Canada and Australia, and for some strange technicality, it will not be available in the German market neither.
In keeping with tradition with the jar releases, there is always one cigar that is completely wrapped in parchment paper. I’ve been told by several Havana factory workers that this cigar is chosen as the best one from the jar.
The jar itself is really beautiful. Dressed in the standard H. Upmann colors, it is highlighted with gold coloured trimmings, a gold top knob and all packed tightly into a matching outer box. The jar and seal are of great quality, and so using this jar as an actual humidor will be perfect. From experience, a large Boveda pack will last several months and keep the cigars in great condition.

Of note, this is the only vitola available from Habanos in this size. As for special releases in jars, the last one prior to this one was the San Cristobal de la Habana “Torreon” released in 2012. Another superb cigar and jar.
