Romeo y Julietta Churchills circa 2003 Review

This cigar has been sitting in my humidor for approximately 15 years wondering when I was going to get around to it. Well the cigar gods were aligned this weekend for a guy forced to smoke on a 4th floor balcony (plenty of time, little wind, clear skies) so I decided to treat myself.

The wrapper is a medium brown (what I think of as ideal Romeo colour) with nice sheen from the years of relaxing in my humidor. Upon lighting, the cigar produces the mild yet rich flavours that one would expect from a cigar with this kind of age that was medium-bodied when it left the factory. I’m not one to usually detect a lot of non tobacco flavours in a cigar, but this Churchill exudes a faint salted caramel that is delicious.

The combustion is excellent as befits a vintage cigar and one light is enough to smoke it down to a nub. There is very little evolution which is fine with me since the beginning of the final 3rd tastes much the same as the first few excellent puffs. When I finally put it down 2 hours after lighting it up, it still had plenty of life in it though it was up to the band, but dinner beckoned.
