Superiores Box

The habano I am tasting today is a Ramon Allones Superiores La Casa del Habano Exclusive. This cigar is a Coronas Gordas vitola boasting a 46 ring gauge X 143 mm in length. Originally released in 2010, this cigar quickly became one of the classics of the LCDH exclusives lineup and has been in production ever since. Dressed in boxes of 10 with the classic brand and LCDH Exclusive bands, this cigar is my personal favorite of the LCDH exclusives. You can still easily find these in Casa del Habano stores in Canada and in Cuba.

Looking forward to tasting this aged version!

Ramon Allones Superiores

The Beginning

RA Superiores

Starting off, the cold draw has a sweet tobacco taste mixed with some fruity/floral notes.  A really enjoyable cold draw that just makes me want to leave it hanging in my mouth. Lighting up the Superiores I get a nice draw and smoke right off the bat. No draw issues at all and the initial smoke is very enjoyable. The first taste I get brings out exotic nut flavors mixed with some dried fruits. There is also a kind of slight saltiness that is felt, lightly creamy smoke but not the Hoyo like style, a bit dryer…A lovely start. Like the more usual Ramon Allones taste profile I was expecting more body but it started off light…and all of a sudden it just kicked from first to third gear and built up in strenght.

The Middle

Getting towards the middle, the Superiores is showing up very nicely. The evolution is noticeable and very enjoyable. I usually consider Ramon Allones to be a medium/full bodied cigar, but so far this one is really towards medium. Having aged for six years, this box really gives you a cigar with balance and elegance. The flavor profile remains similar to my earlier notes, exotic! The nutty taste is now joined by nice exotic woody undertones…interesting cigar.

The End

RA Superiores

Coming towards the end of this cigar, the body and profile have evolved and taken up a bit in strength. The notes I picked up through the middle of the cigar are still showing off but I am starting to feel a bit of spice in the smoke. Nothing uncomfortable but it is making the smoke “bolder”. The finale of this Ramon Allones Superiores is really what I expected before lighting up this cigar, a nice medium to full body signature intertwining elegance and balance.

Conclusion

My theory is confirmed, this is still my favorite LCDH Exclusive cigar edition. I really enjoyed this smoke and the character this habano showed. This cigar just makes you wish that Ramon Allones would come out with new vitolas and expand their actual lineup to have more choice. I wouldn’t consider this to be a beginners cigar due to its body and flavor profile. But would strongly recommend it to cigar lovers that are refining their palate and looking to discover a new brand. On top of that, the aging on these boxes just give the cigar more depth and complexity.Cherry on the icing… the price of the Superiores is 29,30$ at La Casa in Montreal… a steal in my opinion for such a good smoke.

Hurry up and grab some while they last!

Cheers,

Simon-Pierre Bailly-Vallée
