AVO Regional North and South Cigars

The final pair of the AVO regional edition; the perfecto-shaped North and the torpedo-shaped South were finally made available for purchase on Davidoff of Geneva’s website at the beginning of October.

Avo’s regional edition series set out to create a unique blend distinctive of each region of the United States as per the four cardinal directions. The compass motif is indicative of Avo Uvezian’s remarkable life as a globetrotting jazz musician, the regional series a tribute to his embrace of the unknown and the chance encounter. In this spirit, the “East” and “West” cigars were only available in their respective regions, an astute marketing decision that encouraged smokers from both side of the seaboard to share experiences, swap cigars, and visit each other’s favoured smoke shops. These latest North and South edition cigars were not given the same treatment, likely due to the ongoing “complications” of the year, as their slated August release date was pushed to the beginning of October.

The Avo North Regional is a substantial double figurado (50 X 168mm) and fully Dominican Puro dominantly featuring San Vincente and Piloto Cubano tobaccos. This medium bodied vitola packs intense notes of  nuts, cedarwood and leather, a flavour profile that matches that of the Northern climate according to the producers.  The Avo South regional is a slightly longer Torpedo (50 X178mm) featuring an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and binder, with a complex filler spanning Dominican, Honduran and Peruvian tobaccos. The torpedo is the creamy and earthy counterpart to the North, rounding off the profile with subtle pepper. With this latest release the 10 count, sleek blue “North” box, contains perfectos with yellow bands, while the yellow “South” box, contains torpedos with blue bands, the presentation clearly indicating the complimentary nature of these two releases. Just like the East and West before them, these new Avo’s are fairly limited releases, with 4,250 boxes of the North regional produced, and 4,100 of the South.
