Cohiba 1966 Limited Edition 2011 Cigar

          The very special, now hard to find, 2011 Limited Edition Cohiba 1966.  I always had a soft spot for this cigar, and it’s been a few years since I last enjoyed one.  It was time to re-visit this old friend and see how it was ageing.

ABOUT THE CIGAR – COHIBA :: 1966 Limited Edition 2011

          To avoid any confusion, this 1966 is the limited edition Cohiba that was released in 2011.  The more recent Cohiba release that gained so much attention was Majestuosos 1966, which came in the very limited production humidors wherein 1966 were made.  We will posting an article and review on that cigar, so stay tuned.

          This 1966 Cohiba pays tribute to the year the brand was officially launched to the public.  The cigars came in a varnished box of 10 units, and then enclosed in a cardboard box bearing the famous yellow and black Cohiba trademark design.

          When the cigar was released, I had enjoyed a few of them and was just blown away from the immense flavors.  Over the years, with the rarity of them, I saved them only for special occasions.  I remember them being full bodied, bold tasting cigars, with flavors like cocao bean and espresso very pronounced.  It has been 3 years since the last one, and so I thought it would be a good time to try one out again.

          Since the brand began selling commercially, Cohiba only had 7 Limited Edition releases.  Here is a list of the Limited Edition bearing the Cohiba band.  This list strictly consists of official Limited Edition Cohibas, and does not include the multiple jar humidors, book humidors, and special humidor releases.

2003.  Cohiba Double Coronas.  49 7 5/8.  Boxes of 25.

2004.  Cohiba Sublimes.  54 x 6 ½.  Boxes of 25.

2006.  Cohiba Piramides.  52 x 6 1/8.  Boxes of 10.  A re-release of the 2001 Piramides, marking the 5 year anniversary of the first Cohiba Limited Edition.

2011.  Cohiba 1966.  52 x 7.  Boxes of 10.

2014.  Cohiba Robustos Supremos.  58 x 5.   Boxes of 10.

2017.  Cohiba Talisman.  54 x 6 1/8.  Boxes of 10.

SIZE: 52 x 6.5 inches.

FACTORY NAME: Cañonazo Especial.  Only 2 cigars were ever produced by Habanos with this size, this one, and the Trinidad La Trova La Casa del Habano exclusive. 

1st Part

          The cigar hits you straight away with a beautiful creaminess.  It is not so full bodied and bold as I remember, instead a medium bodied delicious flavor is immersing.  This Cohiba is giving off notes of a smooth and light butter.

2nd Part

          The draw continues to be perfect.  The creaminess is still very present with an added bit of milk chocolate.

3rd Part        

          The finale of this 1966 is holding up strong.  The intensity level never hit a full-bodied mark, however the flavors continue to evolve. 

SUMMARY

          The cigar has certainly gotten milder since the last time I enjoyed one 3 years ago.  For me, this is the ultimate cigar experience, a mild to medium cigar, with a smooth evolution of flavors from beginning to end. 

It is one of the best cigars I have smoked.
