Cohiba Exquisito review

Cohiba Exquisito
Cohiba Exquisito

Today, I will smoke a cigar gifted to me by my friend Amir while I was in Toronto for the annual Toronto Mega Herf. He explained to me that this was his go to cigar for morning or for a quick smoke. I have always stayed away for the smaller Cohiba given their price but I am more than happy to give them a faire chance.

Here are some specs:

The Cohiba Exquisito is a 33 mm ring gauge by 126 mm long. It is a small panatela (Seoane is the factory name) and it was released in 1989. Until 2002 they were 36 mm by 125 mm but since then the Seoane vitola standards have change.

The example I have is well built but without any top notch characteristics. It has an average wrapper, aroma and overall look. It allows me to give it a haircut quite easily. THe draw is a little tight but I think this due to the ring gauge and not bad construction.

At cold, I have pure sweet tobacco flavors. It is much more potent than the aromas that emanated from the cigar itself.

1st third

This is good right at the start. It has a medium body and it has a lot of flavors. It doesn’t produce much smoke but it coats your mouth quickly. It has a creamy feeling like want to chew on it. Coffee, herbaceous flavours and smooth caramel at the bottom are the flavors that pop out at the beginning.

This is a wonderful cigar to have with an espresso. I am drinking brown Lavazza brewed on my stove top italian espresso maker. This is hitting the spot.

2nd third

This cigar is steady delivering some flavors and medium body. I get a little sweeter smoke, that make it taste almost like blackberries but not really at the same time…confused? so am I but in a good way. I can see this smoke as a coffee break or winter size smoke. You get all the Cohiba trademark flavors but in a quicker format. This is definitely not as good as the larger Cohibas(Siglo IV, VI, Esplendidos..) but it packs a bundle.

3rd third

The Cohiba Exquisito is building up in body and also in nicotine. The flavors are still there and still no sign of bitterness but it is beefing up. This is a bit too strong for me this morning but I am still inclined to finish it.

I can see picking up a few of these for myself for those Christmas holiday morning smoke or a beautiful sunday with a newspaper and some needed coffee. Overall a good smoke, still a bit too expensive for my budget(if you have the money, please pick these up) but a very positive experience. Thanks Amir!

6.75/10
